Re: Avatar completely snubbed at the SAG awards
by JMCompt Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:44 am. The SAG awards is by and for Screen Actors, right? It is focused on their own assessment of the performances. I have no doubt that many of the Guild-members felt there was not enough actual screen-time for the actors and actresses to warrant the receipt of an award. Out of curiosity, how many actual animated films have resulted in SAG awards for their talent?
Also, just because you might not have heard about something does not mean that it has little to no validity. How many people here have heard about the Baha'i? I didn't really know anything about China outside of Kung-Fu flicks 10 years ago, and I only recently learned about the art of Bento. I am so very thankful learning is a lifelong task.
Sooner or later Avatar the movie will get its just due, just as Baha'u'llah, the Avatar of this age, will come to be recognized by the masses of humanity. -gw

The spiritual light of the world has risen again from the eastern horizon. The night is finished; the day is come and the first rays of the dawn are destroying the shadows, dispersing the clouds, making the plants to grow, the trees to become verdant and ornamenting the flower-beds with roses. The sun of reality hath reappeared with tremendous power and soon the light of BAHA'U'LLAH will be diffused throughout the world. See how the light of Christ's shining star took three hundred years to shed its rays on the world, whereas the light of BAHA'U'LLAH has permeated all regions in less than half a century. His cause has been spread in every country and the mention of BAHA'U'LLAH made in every tongue. In nearly every country there is an assembly of friends from Teheran to Paris, to San Francisco, to Japan. This is a different age and light is spreading with great rapidity.

Bipartisan Resolution In Support of Iranian Baha’i Passes Senate
Resolution Condemns Iran for Human Rights Abuses; Calls for Release of Religious Prisoners
THDECEMBER 3, 2009

Washington, D.C.- Continuing their support for religious tolerance and freedom throughout the world, U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) announced that a resolution condemning Iran for the persecution of 300,000 Iranian members of the Baha’i Faith has been passed by the Senate. The Senators’ resolution also called on Iran to release its prisoners held for their religious beliefs, including seven Baha’i leaders detained since 2008. The resolution was introduced by Wyden and Brownback and supported by 16 other senators from both parties.

“While the Baha’i faith teaches equality, unity and peace, the baseless persecution of Baha’is at the hands of the Iranian regime is the antithesis of those sacred beliefs,” Wyden said. “The actions taken by Iran against this religious minority fly in the face of basic human rights as well as Iran’s own international commitments. With this resolution, the United States Senate unequivocally denounces Iran’s discrimination against the Baha’i and urges the release of their religious prisoners.”

“For too long, the Iranian regime has targeted and persecuted religious minorities in Iran, including, and especially, members of the Baha’i faith,” Brownback said. “For a regime that commits violence and repression at home and exports terrorism abroad, the stakes are too high for us to remain silent. I applaud the Senate’s passage of this resolution, which strongly condemns the Iranian regime for its religious persecution and flagrant human rights abuses.”

The Iranian Baha’i community is the largest religious minority in Iran with membership of more than 300,000 people. Unlike some other religious minorities such as Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians, Iran’s Baha’is have never been given religious recognition and are often persecuted by the Islamic Republic. The regime often seizes personal property, denies Baha’is access to education and employment opportunities and detains or imprisons Baha’is based solely on their religious belief.

In February 2009, the Iranian regime arrested seven Baha’i leaders, charging them with espionage, insulting religious sanctities, and spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic. The regime has currently offered no proof justifying the charges and has delayed their trial date several times. This resolution denounces the religious persecution and calls for the immediate release of all religious prisoners including the seven Baha’i leaders.

The Persian government believed the banishment of the Blessed Perfection from Persia would be the extermination of His Cause in that country. These rulers now realized that it spread more rapidly…. Read it and consider: one prisoner, single and solitary, without assistant or defender, a foreigner and stranger imprisoned in the fortress of 'Akk, writing such letters to the Emperor of France and Sultan of Turkey. Reflect upon this: how Bah'u'llᡡh upraised the standard of His Cause in prison. Refer to history. It is without parallel. No such thing has happened before that time nor since -- a prisoner and an exile advancing His Cause and spreading His teachings broadcast so that eventually He became powerful enough to conquer the very king who banished Him....

Iran bans paper for running photo of Baha'i temple
By ALI AKBAR DAREINI (AP) – 13 hours ago
TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian authorities have banned the country's largest-circulation newspaper for publishing a photo of a Baha'i temple, state media reported Monday.
Iran's Shiite cleric-led regime views the Baha'i religion as heretical and has banned it since the 1979 revolution. The photo also gave Iran's leaders an opportunity to silence the Hamshahri daily, which mostly reports on social issues but which has been critical of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad's June re-election has been challenged by opposition activists and others who say massive fraud deprived the hard-line president's main pro-reform challenger of victory. Since then, the government has crushed street demonstrations, closed critical media outlets and silenced reformists with a mass trial.
Hamshahri was ordered closed by the Press Supervisory Board, a government agency run by hard-liners, for printing an advertisement containing a photo of a Baha'i temple that encourages tourists to visit the shrine, the official IRNA news agency reported.
The newspaper's director, Ali Reza Mahak, said he has received no order to close and was preparing to publish Hamshahri's Tuesday edition. But Deputy Culture Minister Mohammad Ali Ramin later confirmed to Iran's state TV that Hamshahri has been ordered closed.
The IRNA report said legal authorities would investigate the newspaper, which is run by Tehran's municipality and supports the capital's mayor, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, a moderate conservative who has long been a rival of Ahmadinejad.
Iran's hard-line judiciary has shut down more than 120 pro-reform newspapers and jailed dozens of editors and writers on vague charges of insulting authorities since 2000.
The closure order was also a message to Iran's estimated 300,000 Baha'is.
Authorities have launched periodic crackdowns against Baha'i followers, and state-run media often run articles denouncing the religion, which was founded in the 1860s by Baha'u'llah, a Persian nobleman considered a prophet by the Baha'is.
Islam considers Muhammad to be the last of the prophets.
Iran had been the cradle of the Baha'i faith in the middle of the 19th century. But it has not been recognized in the Iranian constitution as a religious minority since the 1979 revolution toppled the pro-U.S. Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and brought hard-line clerics to power.
Seven Baha'i leaders have been in jail since May 2008 on charges of endangering national security for allegedly proselytizing. Leaders of the minority faith, however, say they are being persecuted by Iran's government for their religious beliefs.

In one of the Tablets these words have been revealed: O people of God! Do not busy yourselves in your own concerns; let your thoughts be fixed upon that which will rehabilitate the fortunes of mankind and sanctify the hearts and souls of men. This can best be achieved through pure and holy deeds, through a virtuous life and a goodly behavior. Valiant acts will ensure the triumph of this Cause, and a saintly character will reinforce its power. Cleave unto righteousness, O people of Baha! This, verily, is the commandment which this wronged One hath given unto you, and the first choice of His unrestrained Will for every one of you.

According to science, all forms of creation are endowed with life; this element of life and energy depending on environment and adaptations. Life as an attribute of growth is manifest to a minute degree in the mineral kingdom. It is more powerfully manifested in the vegetable kingdom and when we study the animal world we observe that the power of life is expressing itself through more capable mediums, showing manifold attributes. Ascending to the human kingdom we find that life, or what is figuratively called spirit, is declaring itself with knowledge in the utmost power and transcendency.

Now, through the aid and bounty of God, this power of guidance and this merciful bestowal are found in thee. Arise, therefore, in the utmost power that thou mayest bestow spirit upon mouldering bones, give sight to the blind, balm and freshness to the depressed, and liveliness and grace to the dispirited. Every lamp will eventually be extinguished save the lamp of the Kingdom, which increaseth day by day in splendour. Every call shall ultimately weaken except the call to the Kingdom of God, which day unto day is raised. Every path shall finally be twisted except the road of the Kingdom, which straighteneth day by day. Undoubtedly heavenly melody is not to be measured with an earthly one, and artificial lights are not to be compared with the heavenly Sun. Hence one must exert endeavour in whatever is lasting and permanent so that one may more and more be illumined, strengthened and revived....

And what an excellent aim this great aim is! There are imperfections in every human being, and you will always become unhappy if you look toward the people themselves. In like manner through these clear, firm, well-founded and direct explanations understand the "cleaving of heaven" which is one of the signs of the hour of Resurrection: As it is said: "When the heaven shall be cloven asunder." (K.S. 82) By this is meant the heaven of religions elevated during every Dispensation and cloven asunder in every subsequent Manifestation, that is, abolished and annulled. I swear by God that to one who carefully considers, the cleaving asunder of this heaven is greater than the cleaving of the phenomenal heaven. Reflect a little; a long-established religion, under which all have grown and developed; by the shining ordinances of which they have been trained for long periods; hearing nothing from their fathers and ancestors except its mention, so that the eyes see only the effectiveness of its commands and ears hear only its ordinances; then afterward one appearing, severing and separating all these through divine power and strength, nay rather, abolishing them. Consider whether this is of greater importance than that which these worthless creatures have imagined concerning the cleaving of heaven. Moreover, consider the difficulties and afflictions of these Countenances in executing the laws of God in face of all in the earth, without a worldly helper or assister. Notwithstanding the
persecutions inflicted upon these pure, high and blessed Beings,They endure with the utmost power and suffer with infinite strength.

Baha'i Basics
________________________________________
Founder
Baha'u'llah, a native of Persia, announced in 1863 that He was God's Messenger for the Age. His teachings and Sacred Writings are the basis of the Baha'i Faith. He claimed his divine mission was to bring about the spiritual rebirth and the unity of mankind. He promised that this would lead to the establishment of permanent world peace and to the Kingdom of God on Earth.
Baha'u'llah proclaimed that God sends divine Messengers with teachings that enable humanity to know and worship God. These Great Manifestations, which have appeared throughout history at intervals of about 500 to 1,000 years, bring human civilization to ever higher levels of spiritual and material advancement. Baha'u'llah is revered as the latest in this long line of Divine Messengers, which has included Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Krishna, Buddha and Zoroaster.
Baha'u'llah was imprisoned, tortured and exiled, but continued to urge emperors, kings and other national leaders to reconcile and pursue world peace. He was born in 1817, died in 1892.
Baha'is believe
The purpose of life is to know and worship God, to acquire virtues, to promote the oneness of humankind and to carry forward an ever-advancing civilization.
All humanity was created by one God and is part of one human race.
Work performed in the spirit of service is the highest form of worship.
The soul, created at the moment of conception, is destined by God to reach the afterlife, where it will continue to progress until it attains the presence of God.

Wasn't it "Kain"? Yours sounds like a disparaging remark and I noticed another question you asked about anyone being tired of her. If UR, don't read her stuff.
And if it's not, like axeman66 thinks [so do I], the world needs monks. Ruminate on this:
Om Shree Guru Geetaya Namah.

I'm not answering any more of your questions. And don't answer any of mine. Clearly some people are not on this site for the right reasons.

The day is approaching when God will have exalted His Cause and magnified His testimony in the eyes of all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth. Place, in all circumstances, Thy whole trust in Thy Lord, and fix Thy gaze upon Him, and turn away from all them that repudiate His truth. Let God, Thy Lord, be Thy sufficing Succourer and Helper. We have pledged Ourself to secure Thy triumph upon earth and to exalt Our Cause above all men, though no king be found who would turn his face towards Thee.
